B. J. Fortner Hardwoods has been doing business from western Lee County, VA for more than 30 years, and we're proud to be able to offer people in this country and across the world the finest in lumber and veneer logs. We work hard to maintain our high level of training and state of the art equipment to help us provide you with high quality logs and lumber and competitive prices.

Family-Owned and Operated

Fortner Hardwoods is committed to quality because that's what B.J. Fortner and his son, Todd, have built its reputation on. Our family's work in logging goes back six generations.

The company's namesake, B.J. Fortner, founded it in the 1960s. While his son, Todd, runs the day to day operation these days, B.J. remains active, taking care of the log yard and export business. Even the grand kids, Justin, Elise, and Victoria Fortner, have started to get involved with the family business.

B. J. Fortner Hardwoods are certified in the Master Logger in Kentucky and Tennesse as well as members of Member National Hardwood Lumber Association and the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association.

New Saw Mill

Hardwood logs and veneer log exporting has been the mainstay of our business since B.J. founded it, but in the late 90's we added a state-of-the-art sawmill, creating enough work to keep nearly two dozen employees from Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia busy. Between timber buys and payroll, Fortner's puts almost $3 million into the local economy.

At Fortner's we believe in being a good neighbor and that is why we have formed the Tennessee Timber and Land Management Company. Do you own property that has a stand of trees? From our location in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, we are able to easily transport our lumber around the world, where our veneer quality logs are of special interest.
